JM Services Ethos

JM Services consider that our staff are our biggest investment and our major asset. The company ethos is to work hard and develop a good relationship with our customers and we need all of our staff to help and support us to succeed in this area.

All members of our staff undergo training through organisations such as LANTRA and City & Guilds as well as the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to provide them with the skills and knowledge required to assess risks and work safely with the various types of equipment we utilise e.g. brushcutters, lawnmowers and chainsaws. Staff are not allowed to use any equipment unless they have been trained and proven to be fully competent.

In terms of relevant skills and knowledge across the company –

• All staff have undergone first aid training

• All staff have undergone manual handling

• Staff are trained in any new equipment that we purchase/hire

• Training is provided in using pesticides and the operating equipment safely and within legislation (PA1&6) and codes of practice (COSHH)

• Full PPE is provided and staff are trained in when and how it should be worn

• Road safety training is provided

We ensure that suitable and adequate training is provided to make certain that staff are fully trained and competent with all the machinery that we use e.g. operation of a string trimmer, brushcutter or clearing saw. This includes for pre-use checks and maintenance; identification of controls and instruments and operating the machine to remove brush, long grass or small trees as appropriate to the machine.

JM Services aim to be a best practice employer and the health & safety of our staff is paramount to this being achieved. For this reason we have developed a staff code of conduct which must be adhered to by all employees and is designed to ensure that at all times safety procedures are followed and PPE is allocated and worn. WASTE MANAGEMENT As a company and as individuals, we have a WasteSmart focus and have developed environmental procedures and practices at work e.g. Collection and recycling of all packaging materials (cardboard/plastics), safe disposal of oils, mulching/chipping of garden waste to form composts etc. We make every effort to reuse or recycle across the business and recently had two employees undertake a CIWM (Chartered Institution of Wastes Management) foundation course. This course is aimed at anyone who generates, handles or manages waste as part of their role and provides the information necessary to make astute and efficient waste related decisions, whilst increasing sustainability and improving performance.. This version of the course consists of 5 sessions: • Waste as a resource • Environmental impact of Waste • The cost of managing waste • Options for managing waste • Legislation and compliance – the legal duties that apply to anyone handing waste as part of their job The practices learned will be implemented across the company as part of our environmental and waste management objectives.
